Zafar Ali Khan “ZAK”

ZAK is a proud Pakistani O and A Level Computer Science educator, entrepreneur and programmer at heart. He walked into his first Cambridge A Level Computing class at The City School (PAF Chapter) in 1999 and has not left the classroom since — 25+ years teaching 0478, 2210 and 9618 (9608 and 9691 before it) at Karachi's most renowned institutes — Nixor, Beaconhouse, Foundation Public School, The City School, Alpha, Credo and more — and over ten thousand students who learnt that pseudocode is not scary, it is just precise. His teaching methods, coupled with his own digital resources, have carried students to outstanding grades and CAIE distinctions, session after session.

Along the way he became the teacher other teachers ask. His A Level Computing notes went online as zakonweb in 2008; the discussion groups he started for 9691 and 2210 are still where students go when the textbook does not explain it, and his online following — 65,000+ students and teachers, everywhere CAIE Computer Science is offered — grew from there. Together they became a free online education platform: this website, lecture notes and videos, discussion groups, the ZAPP Android and iOS app, and AskZ — an AI teaching assistant trained on his own material that answers his students day or night.

When AI arrived he did not wait for someone else to build the tools. He is President and co-founder of ByteCorp, an AI start-up out to revolutionise industries with AI-based products and solutions while changing the conventional way software is built — and the same engineering runs the labs on this site.
