Steps

  1. Step 1: Make a class

    Where: Classroom → New class

A class is a class list. Add students from a list of names and emails, or give them the six-letter code. A class list you already have appears here too.

    Open this screen
  2. Step 2: Set the work

Where: The class → Work → New work

Choose where the questions come from: a paper from the Paper Builder (Set as homework on a built paper), one of ZAK's assignment sets, past-paper questions, your own questions with marking points, a quiz, a hand-in of photos or files, or a task on the site.

  3. Step 3: Choose the rules

Where: New work → the settings

Who it is for, when it opens, when it is due and when it closes, what happens to late work, how many tries, and its weight in the gradebook. Marks are held until you release them unless you choose otherwise. Then Save as draft or Publish.

  4. Step 4: Let AskZ mark

    Where: Nothing to press

Each hand-in is marked at once against the mark scheme, part by part. Students see only that it was handed in.

  5. Step 5: Check at your desk

Where: The class → To mark → a piece of work → a student

Each answer with AskZ's mark and the points it gave. Parts marked Needs your eye come first. Change the mark with a note, Mark again with AskZ, Return for another try, or Excuse the student.

  6. Step 6: Release

Where: The desk → Release to the class or Release to this student

Students then see their marks, your comments and, if you allowed it, the mark scheme. Hold again takes them back.

  7. Step 7: Follow up

Where: The desk → the report → Set a follow-up

The report shows the class by question and topic. A follow-up sets the notes, quiz or assignment for the weakest topic.

  8. Step 8: Read the gradebook

    Where: The class → Gradebook

Every student against every piece of work, with late, missing, excused and held marked. Change the category weights, or download it as a CSV.
